NCHSAA MEMO | Mass Gathering Update & Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 176
November 11, 2020

In light of the information shared by Governor Cooper during his press conference on Tuesday, we reached out for clarification relative to our mass gathering numbers for current in-season, indoor and outdoor high school events. In this memo, we are sharing that clarification plus several other updates:

  • Spectator allowances for volleyball remain at 25; no change in numbers for athletes, coaches, workers, etc.
  • Spectator allowances for outdoor venues remain at 100; no change in numbers for athletes, coaches, workers, etc.
  • Out of season numbers remain as previously indicated: 25 indoors and 100 outdoors, inclusive of staff
    • 6 feet distancing and the wearing of masks as currently outlined

A state mask requirement in volleyball could be forthcoming. In the meantime, remember, that during the regular season, if a school/LEA requires its student athletes to wear masks during competition, the visiting team should be notified in advance as it will be expected to comply.

WeSTRONGLYURGEyou to remain vigilant in the efforts to teach and coach with a continuing emphasis on health and safety. Please continue to role model what is required, while stressing the importance of the 3 W’s:

  • Wear a mask!
  • Wait 6 feet!
  • Wash your hands often!

Thank you for all you continue to do to help us Return to Playing Sports!

Lexington Senior High School Athletics, in conjunction and compliance with the NC High School Athletic Association, has released the following document outlining the "Return to Play: Phase 2" guidelines for the upcoming school year.
